String tension refers to the tightness of the strings on a badminton racket, measured in pounds (lbs).

Generally, higher string tension provides more control and requires more strength and precision for accuracy.

Lower tension offers more power with lesser strength needed, but can reduce accuracy where the shuttlecock lands.

Our recommended string tension for Badminton Rackets are:

  • Beginner – Under 12 years old: 16 – 20 lbs
  • Beginner – Above 12 years old: 20 – 22 lbs
  • Beginner – Adult: 20 – 24 lbs
  • Intermediate: 24 – 26 lbs
  • Advanced: 25 – 28 lbs

APACS badminton rackets are well known for their lightweight, high string tension (maximum 30 to 38 lbs), and slim shafts.

Light rackets enable a player to have faster reflex.

Each racket has its own unique features:

  • FeatherWeight series: Lightweight at 6U and 7U. These rackets are either evenly balanced or slightly head heavy. Examples include Feather Weight 100, 300, 500, 55 and 75.
  • Duplex Series: Lightweight rackets from 6U to 10U, with 9.0 flexible shaft and are slightly / head heavy. Examples are Duplex Power 55 (World’s lightest racket), 63, 68 and 72.
  • Pro Series: APACS’ premium range of rackets with unique features, such as slim shaft that ranges from 5.5mm to 6.8mm. They are usually 4U rackets.
  • Light Series: APACS’ light rackets. Examples include Asgardia Series and Super Speed with 5.5mm – world’s slimmest shaft racket!

Key factors for choosing a badminton racket:

Racket’s Weight:

  • The racket’s weight impacts an individual / player’s game / performance.
  • Lighter rackets are easier to play with faster reflexes.
  • Heavier ones require more strength, but provide more power.
  • Higher the ‘U’ number is, the lighter the racket is.

Racket’s Balance Point

  • Rackets can be balanced (285mm), slightly head heavy (over 285mm), or head heavy (over 295mm).
  • Lighter rackets are usually slightly head-heavy or head-heavy.

Racket’s Shaft Flexibility

  •  Flexible shaft allows greater whipping effect that generates more power on strokes and are easier to play with.

For a new racket, it can be ready in approximately 30 minutes.
